Why does all of this matter? Because wrong context costs money. Simple.
I now run every purchasing or research question through a five-point filter:
- What exactly am I buying? A cell? A module? A pack? A complete system? The answer changes every spec on the page.
- Who validates the data? If the performance claim comes from a press release rather than a third-party test report, it is a marketing claim, not engineering data.
- What is the production maturity? Lab sample, pilot line, or mass production? Solid-state and condensed batteries are relevant to future programs, not to a 2026 purchase order.
- Does this query belong to my product context? Stock tickers, consumer power stations, and automotive camera systems may have 'battery' or 'DMS' in the same search history, but they do not belong in the same procurement decision.
- What will the end customer see and feel? This is the quality perception check. If the supplier's output does not match the spec, the client does not blame the supplier. They blame you.
That last point is the one I try to teach every new hire. It is not about looking for perfection. It is about protecting the quality signal your company sends.
The checklist will not tell you whether to choose LFP or NMC. It will stop you from answering the wrong question. And in my experience, the wrong question is the expensive one.
